Travel industry leaders named in honours list.
Two of Australia’s leading travel agents have been cited for their contribution to the nation in today’s Australia Day honours, which were released this morning by the Governor-General.
Phil Hoffmann of Phil Hoffmann Travel in Adelaide was named as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for “significant service to the travel and tourism industry through contributions to professional associations and the development of training standards”.
Hoffmann’s citation includes his roles as chairman of the South Australian Tourism Commission and as an AFTA director, as well as md of Phil Hoffmann Travel and co-founder of Cruiseco.
And Croydon Travel’s Phil Asker received the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia for “service to the tourism industry, and to the community”.
Asker was cited for “major philanthropic contributions” in which his Captain’s Choice tour operations had helped raise funds for a number of health, humanitarian and education projects.
Asker has headed up Croydon Travel since 1971 and founded the Captain’s Choice Tour as well as re-establishing Antarctica Sightseeing Flights, both of which are now part of APT.
Also named in the Australia Day Honours list was former Qantas executive and Airservices Australia chairman David Forsyth, who was made Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for “significant service to the aviation industry through a range of administrative and leadership roles”.
