Consumer watchdog grounds Qantas’ domestic acquisition plans.
In a major blow to Qantas, the ACCC has announced it will oppose the proposed acquisition of Alliance Aviation, citing a likelihood that the purchase would substantially lessen competition, increase prices and reduce service quality for customers.
The ACCC said it “carefully considered” the level of competition provided by other airlines such as Virgin Australia and National Jet Express (owned by Rex), as well as other smaller carriers in making its decision.
