New MGallery by Sofitel planned for Sydney CBD.
AccorHotels has announced it will extend its MGallery by Sofitel brand in Sydney with a new-build property in Castlereagh Street to open in December 2020.
Being built by developer Shanghai United, the $120 million property will be located on the corner of Bathurst Street and is part of a wider $380 million mixed-use development. It will involve a new 36-storey tower with 121 hotel rooms and 131 residential apartments.
Designed by Candelapas & Associates architects, it will be called The Porter House Hotel, MGallery by Sofitel and will “interweave” an existing 1870s heritage-listed building.
“We are thrilled to develop a new strategic partnership with Shanghai United on this landmark development for Sydney’s CBD,” said Chief Operating Officer Pacific for AccorHotels Simon McGrath.
“The Sydney hotel sector is the strongest in Australia with consistent occupancy levels in the mid-high 80% range and average rates growing sharply,” he said. “This new MGallery by Sofitel hotel will stand to greatly benefit from the tourism and infrastructure boom we are currently seeing with projects such as the International Convention Centre and light rail development.”
The hotel will complement the existing Harbour Rocks Hotel in the city and join a network of more than 10 MGallery by Sofitel hotels across Australia and New Zealand and over 80 worldwide.
