New codeshare will unlock single ticket access to 16 cities in Australia and New Zealand for Air India passengers.
Virgin Australia has announced a new codeshare deal with Air India which will see the ‘AI’ code appear on VA flights to 16 cities across Australia and New Zealand.
Air India travellers will be able to connect from daily AI flights from Delhi to both Sydney and Melbourne on VA services to Adelaide, Ballina/Byron Bay, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Gold Coast, Hamilton Island, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sunshine Coast and and Sydney.
Virgin’s flights to Queenstown in New Zealand are also included, but is currently subject to regulatory approval.
Bookings for the new codeshare deal have already opened, with the first connected flights to begin today. The cooperation will also see baggage checked through to the final destination.
It’s unclear at present whether the agreement will apply for Australians travelling in the other direction.
