Air New Zealand to spend $100m on 777-200ER upgrades.
Air New Zealand has just announced the refurbishment of its eight-strong fleet of 777-200ER aircraft, the first of which entered service in 2005.
Deputy ceo Norm Thompson said the move would see a consistent offering across the full Air New Zealand long-haul fleet, with the -200ERs to be aligned with product available in its new 777-300ERs and the forthcoming 787-9 Dreamliners which are scheduled for delivery in mid-2014.
The first 777-200ER upgrade will commence in the second quarter of 2014, with all eight planes to be completed in the following 12 months.
The refurbishment will see the Business Premier seats on the -200s upgraded to match the 777-300ERs, and the complete replacement of Premium Economy and Economy Seats – including the innovative Skycouch product.
NZ will also install the latest Panasonic eXlite inflight entertainment system, including high resolution touch screens for all seats in the aircraft.
The work will be undertaken at Air New Zealand’s Auckland Engineering base.
