The Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) has written to Federal Transport Minister Catherine King requesting a wide net of travel support.
ATIA has asked the Federal Government to ensure any support package for Rex Airlines includes compensation for the wider travel ecosystem like travel advisors.
Many travel agents are currently out of pocket with significant amounts outstanding and owed by Rex Airlines, ATIA argued.
“On top of the financial exposure is the significant increase in workload as they work to help those who have now found themselves stuck and those who have booked with Rex for future travel,” ATIA CEO Dean Long said.
“Financial assistance is crucial to help travel businesses manage this difficult period, and we are hopeful the Federal Govt will understand that,” he added.
Rex was forced to ground its B737 flights after formally entering voluntary administration this morning.
