Injunction granted against non-renewal of ATAS accreditation.
Online travel agency Bestjet has been granted an injunction by the Supreme Court of Queensland against the Australian Federation of Travel Agents, with the injunction restraining AFTA from acting on its decision to refuse renewal of Bestjet’s ATAS accreditation (TD yesterday).
The matter will return before the court on Thursday 31 March 2016 at 10am, with Bestjet managing director Rachel James saying the company had challenged the AFTA decision because her team had “worked hard to comply with all requirements for membership set down by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents”.
“This outcome is a small acknowledgement of all the hard work we have put in to meeting the requirements for membership,” she said.
Yesterday’s AFTA announcement about the removal of Bestjet from ATAS stated “after an extensive process of appeal provided by Revision 1 and 2 of the ATAS Charter, Bestjet had been unable to satisfy the criteria of the charter, specifically section 2.5 ‘Close Associate’ and as such the ATAS accreditation has not been renewed”.
