The South African native formerly served as head of Air Mauritius in the 2010s.
Fiji Airways head Andre Viljoen will be returning to Air Mauritius as its Chief Executive Officer from October – the airline he once ran for six-and-a-half years.
Viljoen was CEO & Director of Mauritius’ flag carrier from 2009-2015, before Fiji Airways recruited him as its Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer – a position he has now held for almost 10 years.
A statement from FJ Chair Nalin Patel said the airline has undergone a “remarkable transformation” under Viljoen, growing annual revenue from FJ$815.3 million in 2015 to FJ$1.9 billion in 2024.
The airline’s industrial reputation has also significantly improved, with its global Skytrax rating moving from outside the top 100 when Viljoen took over to 14th last year.
FJ will now conduct “an extensive search” for a replacement.
