The Scandinavian airline has confirmed Melbourne to be its first-ever Australian port of call using its own metal.
Finnair will connect Melbourne to the Finnish capital of Helsinki via Bangkok, Thailand, with a daily service to begin in October 2026.
The flight will include Finnair’s unique business class featuring the AirLounge seat, (a no-recline seat that transforms into a bed), as well as premium economy and economy.
Finnair Area Vice President Pasi Kuusisto said the new service would provide an attractive new option for both business and leisure travellers.
“We are excited to launch service to a new continent, offering seamless connections from Melbourne to Northern Europe and beyond,” he said.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said, “Travel is what connects us and brings people together, so we’re pleased to have Finnair launching daily services connecting Melbourne to Bangkok, Helsinki and beyond”.
Finnair planes are not new to Australian skies, with the carrier providing metal to Qantas in a deal that has seen Finnair Airbus A330s ply the skies into Sydney operating QF flights.
Finnair will be the third European carrier to fly into Australia, with Turkish Airlines and British Airways already providing flights via Asia to Europe.
