Gurney, Buchanan to depart Qantas Group.
Qantas has just announced details of a major restructure, which will see Jetstar, Qantas International and Qantas Domestic operated as three distinct businesses.
Each will have its own ceo and operational/commercial functions with separate reporting of financial results, and the new structure will be effective from 01 July 2012.
“This change will enable a greater focus on the priorities of turning around the Qantas International business and enhancing the strong Qantas Domestic business, as part of the overall Group strategy,” the carrier said in a statement just issued.
A new executive team will be formed led by ceo Alan Joyce, with current Qantas Frequent Flyer chief Simon Hickey to take over as ceo of Qantas International.
Operations chief Lyell Strambi will become ceo of Qantas Domestic, while Jayne Hrdlicka will be ceo of Jetstar Group.
Lesley Grant becomes CEO Qantas Frequent Flyer; Jon Scriven is Group Executive People and Office of the ceo; Olivia Wirth remains as Group Executive Government and Corporate Affairs; Brett Johnson is General Counsel and Gareth Evans is Chief Financial Officer.
Jetstar Group ceo Bruce Buchanan will leave the group after a six month transition period, and will then provide consultancy services for a further 18 months.
“As a consequence of the revised structure, Rob Gurney, Group Executive Commercial and Freight, Qantas Airlines, has decided that it is appropriate to leave the group,” the statement said.
Joyce said the restructure would strengthen the Qantas Group’s portfolio and help deliver its strategic goals.
“Formally separating the management of Qantas International and Qantas Domestic will ensure that we can independently run each business according to its specific priorities and market conditions,” Joyce said.
