Accor wins management contract for ICC hotel.
The new hotel to be constructed as part of Sydney’s International Convention Centre will operate under the Sofitel brand, with Accor signing a management agreement with the successful bidder for the property, Australian hotelier Dr Jerry Schwartz.
Schwartz said the new Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour will be “the largest and most significant new hotel to be built in Sydney for over 20 years,” featuring around 600 rooms in a 35 storey tower, with construction expected to start towards the end of the year.
He said the property would also feature a rooftop club lounge, meeting rooms, a ballroom and outdoor pool deck as well as bars and restaurants with views of Darling Harbour and across the water to the CBD skyline.
“The re-energising of Darling Harbour has been long overdue…Sydney’s economy will benefit significantly as a result of the addition of such a large number of rooms adjacent to the new convention centre,” Schwartz added.
Accor Asia Pacific chief operating officer Simon McGrath said the ICC hotel is a “milestone achievement for Sydney, and Accor is extremely proud to be selected to manage the landmark hotel among its growing luxury portfolio.”
