New South Wales Minister for Tourism George Souris has just released the final report into the NSW Visitor Economy Taskforce, which comprises “48 strategic recommendations and 171 action items” aimed at ensuring NSW meets targets set as part of its plan to double overnight visitor expenditure by the year 2020.
The report shows that under current business practices and methods, the state will fall short to the tune of $13.6bn from its target of $36.6bn, and calls for a “whole of government” approach to addressing the situation.
Plans slated for action in the report include the “removal of artificial constraints to movements at Sydney Airport, increased berthing access for cruise ships to Garden Island and changes to the funding models for regional tourism to be made available directly through Destination NSW”.
The NSW Govt will release a response in Oct after considering the suggestions included in the report in the form of the Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan.
