Federal Government signs historic First Nations tourism partnership.
A First Nations Visitor Economy Partnership has been announced this morning, hailed as a new way to support greater participation and economic opportunities for First Nations people in the tourism industry.
The new collaboration between the Federal Government and First Nations representatives across the country will be tasked with establishing a permanent First Nations national tourism peak body, which will provide guidance and strategic support to grow the critical sector.
The partnership will be funded for an initial two years through the National Indigenous Australians Agency’s Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
“We know that domestic and international visitors are increasingly seeking unique First Nations experiences as part of their travels,” Federal Tourism Minister Don Farrell said.
“This presents great opportunities for First Nations tourism and job creation in Australia’s regions and First Nations communities.”
The announcement follows a report from the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, which advocated for an Indigenous peak tourism body, among many other tourism enhancements.
