Qantas, Jetstar to lift Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Newcastle, Gold Coast and Ballina-Byron services.
Qantas has just announced an increase of up to 25,800 seats per week on east coast routes during 2012/13.
CEO Alan Joyce detailed the changes, which include the addition of 11 return Qantas services per week between Sydney and Melbourne from 09 Jul, as well as a further 11 Sydney-Brisbane operations from 23 Aug.
Jetstar will also significantly boost east coast flights, with 21 additional return services between Sydney and Melbourne from 16 Aug.
Other JQ expansion includes seven extra return Sydney-Adelaide flights from 15 Nov, while from 18 Apr 2013 Jetstar will also add seven return Sydney-Ballina/Byron services, seven return Sydney-Gold Coast flights, three extra Adelaide-Gold Coast flights and four additional Newcastle-Gold Coast flights each week.
“With Qantas and Jetstar we have two complementary brands that enable us to respond to opportunities and changing market conditions,” Joyce said.
“Qantas is increasing capacity and frequency on key business routes to provide greater flexibility for customers who prefer the benefits of travelling with a full service carrier,” he added, while Jetstar is increasing capacity on key leisure routes into holiday destinations.
“We know from experience that increasing the number of low fares in these markets will stimulate new travel demand,” Joyce said.
