Pressure tolls on Qantas as it announces resignation of under-seige Chairman and refreshed board plans in a post-Joyce era.
Under-fire Qantas Chairman Richard Goyder will step down from Qantas before the next AGM in November 2024, the airline announced in a statement to the ASX this morning.
The news of his departure was part of a wider renewal update about the Qantas board, with the carrier stating that due to “reputational issues”, it was pertinent to make changes to restore trust with the Australian public.
Jacqueline Hey and Maxine Brenner will also step down from their roles on the board in February next year after 10 years of service.
Reflecting on his impending departure, Goyder said: “Qantas has gone through an incredibly difficult period since our operations were grounded during the pandemic, and the recovery has not been easy and mistakes were made.”
“We again apologise for those times when we got things wrong,” he added.
