Move aims to help ensure customers and bags “have time to make their international flight”.
Qantas Executive Manager of Sales & Distribution, Igor Kwiatkowski, has advised that the carrier is extending the Minimum Connecting Time (MCT) for passengers transferring from QF domestic to international flights at Sydney and Melbourne Airports to 90 minutes.
Systems were updated yesterday with the revised MCT, with the carrier to proactively rebook passengers travelling after 21 August onto new flights complying with the longer connection period, and issuing a new commercial policy enabling travel agents to voluntarily rebook their clients who are travelling before then.
In some cases the change will require travellers to overnight in either Melbourne or Sydney, with an email from Kwiatkowski confirming Qantas will cover the cost of accommodation under the policy.
“We hope that by processing these changes your customers feel confident Qantas will get them where they want to go, on time and with their bags,” he said.
