Up to six million customers may have been impacted by the incident.
A cyber attack has taken place at one of Qantas’ contact centres, the airline confirmed this morning.
According to a statement, a cyber criminal targeted one of the centres and gained access to customer data through a third-party customer servicing platform.
There are six million customers with service records on the platform and the airline believes a “significant” number have had their data stolen, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates and frequent flyer numbers.
“Importantly, credit card details, personal financial information and passport details are not held in this system,” Qantas said.
“No frequent flyer accounts were compromised nor have passwords, PIN numbers or log in details been accessed.”
Qantas is now in touch with all customers who have been impacted to provide them with support.
