Numerous routes affected as airports brace for the storm’s impact.
Qantas will suspend flights into numerous airports in southeast Queensland due to the imminent arrival of Tropical Cyclone Alfred tomorrow.
The carrier will suspend flights to the Gold Coast from 4pm today for at least 24 hours; to Coffs Harbour from midnight tonight until at least midday tomorrow and to Ballina Byron Bay until midnight tomorrow. Services to Lord Howe Island have also been axed for today.
Flights to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast are continuing for now, with ongoing reviews underway and further updates expected.
Qantas and Jetstar have introduced rebooking options for affected travellers, with information available on both carriers’ websites.
The move follows Gold Coast Airport’s decision to cease operations completely from 4pm today, with passengers to be contacted by their airline. There will be no public access to the airport available until further notice.
