Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport secures first scheduled services.
Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport in Toowoomba, Australia’s first privately-funded public airport, has just confirmed the debut of 11 weekly return QantasLink flights from Sydney effective 17 November.
The “Toowoomba-centric” schedule will offer double daily services Monday to Friday and daily flights on the weekend.
The airport has been developed by Australian family-owned construction company Wagners, with chairman John Wagner saying he was confident of a long-term relationship with Qantas “given the demand from business and leisure travel to Australia’s second largest inland city after Canberra.
“This is a momentous occasion for Australian aviation, our Toowoomba region and the airport,” he said.
QantasLink ceo John Gissing said he was delighted at the new route, adding that he is confident it will stimulate tourism and business opportunites for the Toowoomba area.
Launch fares start at $99 one way on sale until 12 September for travel from the route’s launch through to 30 June 2015. Qantas is also offering special fares connecting via Sydney to Wellcamp from Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth.
