Qantas will cease flights from Sydney to Beijing in March 2020.
Qantas has announced it will cancel its Sydney to Beijing (PEK) flights in March 2020, citing excess market capacity and weak demand for Business class on flights between the two cities.
The carrier said the route was not commercially viable and passengers will still have options to travel to Beijing through partner airlines.
Qantas said since it reintroduced the direct Sydney-Beijing services in 2017, overall competitor capacity between Beijing and Australia had increased by around 20% and is expected to grow even further in 2020.
It reduced its frequency of services from daily to five per week from October 2018 in an attempt to improve the route performance.
The Airbus A330 which is used to operate the route will be redeployed to existing destinations in Asia.
