Flight chaos as escalating military conflict impacts Qatar and UAE.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the temporary closure of its airspace to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
In a statement on X, Qatar Airways also confirmed the development.
“As a result of the closure of air traffic movement in Qatar, we can confirm the temporary suspension of Qatar Airways flights, and we are working closely with government stakeholders and the relevant authorities to support any passengers that have been impacted.
“We will resume operations when the airspace re-opens. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority,” the carrier added.
The decision has already impacted Virgin Australia’s newly launched Doha flights, with flight tracking maps showing flight VA1 was diverted to Bangalore, India.
VA has been contacted by Travel Daily for comment.
The UAE also briefly suspended flights overnight, but has according to Dubai Airports, has now resumed at full capacity.
Emirates, flydubai, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, and other airlines have cancelled some flights to and from Dubai out of an abundance of caution due to the Iranian strikes in Qatar.
