Qantas expands A330 domestic operations.
Qantas has today at Australian Tourism Exchange in Perth announced an expansion of A330 capacity between Melbourne and Perth, with the current 44 services per week operation lifting to 68 flghts, replacing services currently operated by Boeing 767 aircraft effective from 15 Oct.
Some of the additional MEL-PER flights will be operated by Skybed-equipped internationally configured A330 fleet, which will increase from 12 to 37 per week.
The moves were announced by Qantas Domestic ceo Lyell Strambi, who also confirmed the reintroduction of two class Boeing 747 services on the Sydney-Perth route from 09 Jul 2012.
“Using internationally configured aircraft on domestic routes provides increased comfort on the longer routes between the eastern states and Perth, and helps to further cement our position as Australia’s leading full service airline,” Strambi said.
DFW services move to daily
Also at ATE in Perth, Qantas executive manager Stephen Thompson has announced the addition of a seventh weekly Dallas Fort Worth service effective from 01 Jul.
The triangular Sydney-Dallas-Brisbane route has been in operation for just over a year, initially operating four times per week before lifting to six weekly in Jan and now moving to daily next month.
Thompson said demand on the route had been “extremely pleasing,” with the move “all about putting our gateway strategy into action and building a stronger Qantas International for our customers”.
