Plans under way to launch Rex “golden triangle” flights from 01 March 2021.
Regional Express has just confirmed preparations for the operation of an initial fleet of five to 10 narrow-body jet aircraft to service key routes between Australia’s three major east coast capital cities, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
The project will initially be funded by $30 million in capital, either as an equity injection, convertible notes or a sale and leaseback arrangement for some of the airline’s 60 unencumbered Saab A340 aircraft.
“The board has confirmed 01 March 2021 as the targeted start date for domestic operations, subject to fund availability and regulatory approval,” the airline said.
The airline’s Deputy Chairman John Sharp said Rex has the biggest regional network in Australia, and was the only local operator which has been successfully able to navigate the turmoil of the last two decades, with uninterrupted operational profits since 2003.
“With Rex’s expansive regional network of 60 destinations, existing infrastructure in all these capital city airports, superior efficiencies and unbeatable reliability, it will simply be an incremental extension for Rex to embark on domestic operations,” he said.
Booking channels would include both direct and GDS distribution, with lounge membership available, pre-assigned seating and meals on board similar to the “hybrid model that Rex has so successfully pioneered over the last two decades for its regional operations”.
