Key regional destinations impacted with reduced frequencies and suspensions.
Rex Airlines has just announced a swathe of reductions to its regional network, saying the move comes “as the major carriers, particularly the Qantas Group, continue their relentless pillaging of Rex’s pilot group”.
Routes impacted from 30 October include services from Sydney to Albury, Coffs Harbour, Griffith, Narrandera, Orange, Parkes and Port Macquarie, while the carrier is also temporarily suspending its Sydney-Armidale flights until at least 30 March 2024, and will withdraw from the Cairns-Bamaga route in Far North Queensland.
Service reductions on seven other regional routes announced in April will continue for at least another five months, as will the suspension of Rex flights between Adelaide and Mildura.
GM of Network Strategy, Warrick Lodge, said the carrier intended to return to standard flight schedules from 31 March 2024 if the situation with pilots improves.
“Unlike other carriers, we prefer to reduce the scheduled services so that our passengers can be assured of fewer disruptions and more reliable services,” Lodge said.
