National meeting agrees on next steps to support the recovery of the tourism sector.
Federal, State and Territory Tourism Ministers from across the country have today endorsed a “collaborative workplan” which will see them work together over the next 12-18 months on measures to return Australia’s visitor economy to annual expenditure levels of $166 billion by 2024.
In a communique just released following a meeting in Adelaide, the Ministers from across the political spectrum agreed on an agenda to address ongoing challenges in the aviation sector, as well as focusing on rebuilding a “strong, skilled workforce and promote the tourism industry to workers as a career of choice”.
They also pledged to work with their education colleagues to speed up mutual recognition of tourism qualifications, and ensure tourism training is included in fee-free TAFE programs. Other key topics covered include insurance, sustainability, Indigenous tourism, accessible tourism and tourism in national parks.
The commitment also saw them collectively back the longer-term THRIVE 2030 plan which targets expenditure of $230 billion by 2030.
