Five years of social media history could soon be a requirement of entry to the United States.
Tourists from dozens of countries – including Australia – could be asked to provide a five-year social media history as a condition of entry to the United States, under a new proposal unveiled by American officials overnight.
The proposal would affect travellers from countries who use the 90-day ESTA process, according to a document filed by Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security.
US visitation has already endured a downturn over the last year from almost every source market because of the perception of being unwelcoming to tourists under US President Donald Trump.
There will now be a 60-day comment period on the proposal.
