The OTA will also contribute to the ACCC’s court costs.
Webjet has agreed to pay a proposed $9 million penalty and contribute $100,000 to court costs incurred by the ACCC in a Federal Court action relating to alleged misleading online sales practices and fee disclosures.
The action stems from an alleged failure by Webjet marketing to disclose its compulsory booking fees in advertising minimum airfare prices.
In addition, the OTA’s marketing arm has pledged to review and maintain an Australian Consumer Law compliance program in an agreed form.
As a final measure, Webjet has also posted a corrective notice on its website which now clearly shows its servicing and booking price guarantee fees for domestic, New Zealand and other international products.
This notice also advises customers the prices shown are inclusive of taxes and airline surcharges but do not include Webjet’s booking fees, which is charged once per booking and shown both when travel products are selected and again on the check-out page.
